Frank's intro[]

1978mmad

1978: two years after America's Bicentennial, our country's food-service sector was forever changed by the entrance of two very different, but widely beloved, dessert vendors: an innovative Vermont ice-cream provider named for its two hippy founders and a generously-portioned full-service Beverly Hills chain restaurant named for its signature dessert.

The former, the winner of the Creamsmen Region, is known for its mix-ins and outward commitment to progressive causes.

The latter, the winner of the Junior Prom Region, is usually reserved for special-occasion dine-in dinners in its opulent dining rooms; though in the time of COVID, its commitment to excellence extends to its take-away fare.

Today these food foes square off to find out whose sweet treat is the one to beat!

Which dairy delight will delight we Dairy Dudes (and our guest) and advance to the Finale!

One bite away from the sweetest plum in chain-restaurant podcasting, the Dave Thomas Cup!

This week on Doughboys, the first Semisweet Final match of Munch Madness 2021: The Tournament of Chompions: Pie Noon (sponsored by Manscaped)!

Ben & Jerry's vs. The Cheesecake Factory!

Let's a-go!

Pie Noon: Tournament of Chompions Rules 📜[]

The rules for Pie Noon:

  1. Just desserts! - meals may not appeal (if you're an entree or main, you cannot join the game)
  2. No sweet drinks; it has to be more like a shake to be included - If your drink is not slushy, Wiger will get fussy (the juice is not loose).
  3. Donuts 'do nut' count - no breakfast pastries or sweets!
  4. If it's in a mall, you can't play ball! - restaurants like Cinnabon or Auntie Ann's aren't seen as desserts, and they also do not want to go into a mall during the pandemic.
  5. If it's national, it's noshinal - only full national chains included this year.

Semisweet Final 1 🍦vs. 🍰[]

Cookiepuss

The first Pie Noon: Semisweet Final matchup is between Ben & Jerry's (which defeated Baskin-Robbins in the Creamsmen Region) and The Cheesecake Factory (which defeated BJ's in the Junior Prom Region).

For this episode, Mitch announces some scoring categories: travel, taste, tantalizingness (the one that got away), and tummy troubles. The scoring is done on a scale of Cookie Pusses.

They also decide which bite is given to the Cenobites to convert them to Catholicism.

It makes sense. We have a podcast. Maybe my vocal sac has grown.

–Mike Mitchell

I'm fired up! Alright! This is important! I'm pissed off.

–Frank Wiger re: Munch Madness

Arden: What's the best vanilla you ever had?

Frank: Ooh. Good question. I'll have to think on that.
Mitch: Jesus. While you're at it, what's your favorite paper bag brand?
Frank: I like the Trader Joe's paper bags with the handles.
Mitch: Those are nice.
Arden: I like the handles.

–Vanilla and Paper Bags

The Feedbag[]

When I was a kid, I thought cole slaw was actually called 'cold slaw.' Are there any names for food that you learned later in life you were saying totally wrong?
