"Tomorrow... with Jon Gabrus" - @doughboys
Synopsis[]
Jon Gabrus (Action Boyz, High and Mighty) joins the 'boys to tackle the first two regions of Munch Madness: Pie Noon! Plus, another edition of Pie in This Guy. In this episode, Baskin-Robbins takes on Ben & Jerry's in the Creamsmen Region, while BJ's squares off against The Cheesecake Factory in the Junior Prom Region!
Nick's intro[]
"The Sweet Science!": In 1813, British writer Pierce Egan coined this colorful phrase to describe boxing, the ancient Olympic event which re-emerged as spectator sport in 17th-century England. One of countless slang terms that originated from these regulated punch-out contests, 'The Sweet Science' is still in use among boxing aficionados, meant to evoke how the bloodsport requires both a chessmaster's tactical brilliance and a ballet dancer's grace.
But 'The Sweet Science' could also be used to describe a different sort of competition: a tournament between dessert-themed chain restaurants/chain restaurants that serve desserts to determine which is the treat to beat!
This year, six eateries have entered the fray, plus the winners of the Triple-Treat Eat-In Matches (The Bake-Off and The Shake-Off) to compete for the most prestigious award in chain restaurant podcast competition, The Dave Thomas Cup!
Who will out-punch their weight class, and possibly push this podcast's hosts into an even higher weight class?
Which confection will win the election?
Who is this year's Chompion?
This week on Doughboys, the opening two matches of the first round of Munch Madness 2021: The Tournament of Chompions: Pie Noon (sponsored by Manscaped): Baskin-Robbins vs. Ben & Jerry's and BJ Brewhouse and Restaurant vs. The Cheesecake Factory.
Let's a-go!
Pie Noon 🥧: Rules 📜[]
The rules for Pie Noon:
- Just desserts! - meals may not appeal (if you're an entree or main, you cannot join the game)
- No sweet drinks; it has to be more like a shake to be included - If your drink is not slushy, Wiger will get fussy (the juice is not loose).
- Donuts 'do nut' count - no breakfast pastries or sweets!
- If it's in a mall, you can't play ball! - restaurants like Cinnabon or Auntie Ann's aren't seen as desserts, and they also do not want to go into a mall during the pandemic.
- If it's national, it's noshinal - only full national chains included this year.
