"Munch Madness: Blaze Pizza vs. Sbarro with Eva Anderson" is an episode of the premium-content podcast, Doughboys Double, hosted by Mike Mitchell and Nick Wiger. "Munch Madness: Blaze Pizza vs. Sbarro with Eva Anderson" was released on March 6, 2018.
Synopsis[]
The opening round of March Madness 2018 continues! Writer and first ever Doughboys guest Eva Anderson (You're The Worst) returns as pizza chains Blaze and Sbarro square off in the Food Court Region.
Nick's intro[]
1956: Naples, Italy natives Gennaro and Carmela open an Italian grocer[y] in the Bensonhurst neighborhood of Brooklyn and lend it their surname. Over the course of 60+ years of operation, their business would streamline into a quickservice by-the-slice joint commonly found in suburban malls, and become so integrated into American life, a location would open inside the Pentagon.
2011: a different married couple of a different generation and lineage, Rick and Elise Wetzel, no relation to the fictional pretzel mogul, opened a made-to-order pizzeria in Pasadena, California. Their "Chipotle for pizza" concept would experience explosive nationwide growth, surging to become the 16th largest pie chain in the nation within just seven years, and attracting marquee investors like future Basketball Hall of Famer LeBron James.
Can this shopping-center stalwart fend off this NBA superstar-funded upstart?
This week on Doughboys: the second match-up of the quarterfinal round of Munch Madness: The Tournament of Chompions: The Slice Is Right: Food Court Region - Blaze Pizza vs. Sbarro.
Let's a-go!
Munch Madness 2018 Rules[]
The Munch Madness 2018 rules:
- Pizza only. Sides stay on the sidelines. Drinks are in the Gatorade jugs, also on the sidelines.
- Level playing field; all aspects will be equalized as best as possible.
- From each chain, sample one cheese pizza on default crust and one wildcard choice.
- The ratings are out of 10 basketball scholarships, and they rate: overall, appearance, cheese, toppings, sauce, crust, and X Factor. After this episode, they decide 'overall' is unnecessary.
- The winning pizza is sent to the Leaning Tower Of Pisa, and the losing is sent to be under the Eiffel Tower because they don't like pizza in France.
