Synopsis[]

As May-Ow continues on, we're joined by our producer Yusong Liu to open packages from the Doughboys PO Box, to listen to some tracks from Cat Stevens, and to sing some Doughboys-inspired parodies from Cats The Musical.

Packages[]

Catstevenstoomgis

Toomgis tote bag

Instead of doing a run through the Feedbag, answering listener questions, then Doughboys in this episode check out what packages they've received in the mail from people.

They receive:

  • a DVD of Escape At Dannemora
  • By The Sackful, a White Castle recipe book
  • Brian L., who had apparently earlier sent them toilet paper, sent them a six-pack of dental floss.
  • Madeline mailed a box of snacks from Japan, hoping they could snack or wack them. (They say they will another time.)
  • Finally, Michael M sent them a tote bag with Toomgis on it that he got from ampm, and asked a question:
Are there any apps from chains that you have found worth downloading? The McD's app was good but it seems the coupons aren't as solid as they once were.

–Michael M.

May-ow: Cat Music 😺🎼[]

Catstevenstillerman

Tea for the Tillerman

For May-ow, Mitch, as a big fan of Cat Stevens, plays a bunch of snippets of Stevens' songs, starting with the amazing album Tea For The Tillerman: "Where Do The Children Play?", "Wild World," "Father & Son," and "Tea For The Tillerman".

He also plays "Time" and "Fill My Eyes" from Stevens' album Mona Bone Jakon. Next, he drops "Rubylove," "Morning Has Broken," "Peace Train," and "The Wind" from Teaser and the Firecat.

Nick then plays the theme from first season of the Garfield & Friends cartoon TV show. Nick says it reminds him of "Year of the Cat" by Al Stewart, so Mitch plays that as well.

Doughcats: The Musical[]

Next, for May-ow, Yusong, who is a talented musician, has adapted songs from Cats: The Musical to be Doughboys-themed and performs them live!

First, Yusong converts "Gus: The Theatre Cat" into "Mitch: The Quincy Cat": "In Boston he'll go to Pizzeria Regina, where one day he'll marry / his lovely bride Irma".

Next up, Yusong changes "Macavity: The Mystery Cat" into "Nick Wiger: The Mystery Cat": "Nick Wiger is a mystery cat / he's programmed like a bot / He likes to drive in silence / and he likes his salads hot."

Lastly, he closes with "Rumblies" about the show in general (an adaption of "Memory"): "I can't believe cats is the theme of Doubles this month / we're out of ideas / so it seems."

Quotes[]

It's such a throwback into Depression Era / Roaring '20s way of eating where it's like 'would you like some starch with your starch?' Bread is an appetizer. Next, a side of pancakes. What are they gonna bring you? A cup of flour?

–Nick Wiger review of Original Pantry Cafe

Nick: I farted on your new couch.

Mitch: What the fuck!? You're the first person to rip ass on my new couch. You sick fuck. I laid my head there in your shit particles.

–The Doughboys

That's good quality floss. That's actually the floss I'll get for myself.

–Nick Wiger

You have a challenge because your teeth are made of corn nuts and your tongue is made of Twizzlers.

–Nick Wiger on Mitch stumbling over pronouncing a word

I got tears in my eyes!

–Mike Mitchell after hearing Yusong's song about him
