This is Man Bites Dog, a Doughvestigation podcast from Doughboys Media.
Today's story focused on a hot-dog transgression that turns out to be about so much more.
It's a story about friendship, a story about growing up, and then, yes, ultimately, a story about hot dogs.
I'm Evan Susser and I'm joined by Emma Erdbrink.

Man Bites Dog[]
To set this all up, initially, the Feedbag Question in episode 315 was about a guy who asked for a bite of a friend's hot dog at American Trash in New York, and then ate the whole thing. The friend ended the long friendship over it, and sent in a question about it for the Doughboys.
Two months later, the dog-eater wrote in as well, offering his side of the story, and that too was read on an episode.
There was some confusion and skepticism from fans and perhaps even The Doughboys about how real this situation all was, or if it was a made-up story to get on the show, or what. This led to the first ever Doughvestigation by Evan and Emma, who in this episode, share their results with Nick and Mitch.
The Doughvestigation was broken into five parts:
- Episode I: Man Bites Dog - talk with the two friends.
- Episode II: The Dog Hunt - talk with Skip Wardynski, the butcher who made the hot dog in question (here's his website).
- Episode III: The Dog - Susser ships hot dogs and various toppings to Mitch.
- Episode IV: The Third Man - Susser talks with a third man, David, who was there that night and sounds a lot like Mookie Blaiklock. Mitch eats the hot dog and says it's one of the best dogs he's ever eaten.
- Episode V: Reconciliation? - the two friends talk to each other about the whole situation.
