Nick's intro[]
- "For God so loved the world that He gave his only begotten son that whosoever believeth in him shall not perish but have everlasting life" - John 3:16.
- "Jesus sayeth unto him 'I am the way, the truth, and the life. No man cometh under the Father but by me." - John 14:6.
- "Behold, I stand at the door and knock. If any man hear my voice and open the door, I will come into him and will sup with him and he with me." - Revelation 3:20.
These are a few of the Bible verses covertly inserted onto the undersides of the food and drink containers of California's most beloved burger chain; though the prominent palm trees on the packaging are far more at home on the increasingly secular left coast.
The restaurant's founders and owners - the Snyder family - are deeply religious and in the 1980s, 30+ years after the first location opened in the Los Angeles suburb of Baldwin Park, they began including the verses as a subtle, unobtrusive declaration of faith.
Though the company has been a wild success story, first across Southern and then Northern California, and now in the neighboring states of Arizona, Nevada, and Utah, that faith has no doubt been tested through tragedy: patriach Harry Snyder died of lung cancer in 1976; son Rich died in a plane crash in 1993; and another son, Guy, died of a painkiller overdose in 1999. The family legacy continues with current owner Lynsi Snyder, the daughter of Guy, who is the world's youngest female billionaire.
Religious scholars have noted the bipolar personality of the Christian God: a benevolent caretaker after the coming of Christ, but a brutal tyrant before the Messiah's arrival. For a taste of the wrathful God of the Old Testament, one must turn to the fries container which cites Proverbs 24:16: "For though a righteous man falls seven times, He rises again; but the wicked are brought down by calamity."
This week on Doughboys, we return to In-N-Out Burger.
Fork rating[]
The Doughboys first review of In-N-Out was in episode 16, when they all gave it 5 forks and it made the Platinum Plate Club.
Then in the first semifinal round of the 2016 Burger Brawl, In-N-Out lost to Carl's Jr. In the next episode, Nick disqualifies Carl's Jr. from the tournament, allowing In-N-Out to advance to the Finals, where it defeated Shake Shack and won the first Tournament of Chompions, even though it lost in the first round. (That Tournament was chaotic.)
So then in episode 47, Mitch, still upset over the results of the Burger Brawl, angrily dropped his initial rating of In-N-Out to 3 forks. Nick claims it has permanent status in the Platinum Plate Club as the winner of a Tournament, but this current episode was to settle the disagreement.
guest / host | ordered | rating |
---|---|---|
Nick Wiger |

5 forks |
Mike Mitchell |

4.5 forks |
Nothing is totally settled; Nick still claims it has permanent status in the Platinum Plate Club, but Mitch disagrees.
Snack or Wack (or, Yes To The Dressed)[]
In Snack or Wack, the Doughboys have a snack and decide if it is 'good' or 'bad.'
For this week's episode, they were sent a box of Canadian snacks and candies by Canadian fan, Barry Lam. In that box, there was a bag of President's Choice Loads of All Dressed chips. Also, Mitch's friend had acquired Ruffles All Dressed chips, so today they are comparing the two brands of All Dressed chips.
(All Dressed is a popular flavor in Canada; it is a mix of barbecue, ketchup, and salt & vinegar flavors.)
The Doughboys liked both, but Nick slightly preferred the Ruffles while Mitch preferred the President's Choice.

Quotes[]
“ | I think I'd be an okay shepherd. They lead a herding dog. The herding dog herds the sheep, the shepherd's just overseeing all that. There are some gnarly things you have to do as a shepherd, but in general, it seems like a pretty tranquil life. | ” |
–Nick Wiger's professional goals |
“ | We're going to name [the trophy] after a great person in the history of chain restaurants. The Doughboys Tournament of Chompions trophy will henceforth be named the Dave Thomas Cup. He was a great man, who did a lot of good, I think, maybe. | ” |
–Nick Wiger's announcement |
“ | The Gremlins in Gremlins 2 were more vegetablier than the Gremlins in Gremlins 1. | ” |

The Feedbag[]
“ | Dear 'boys, first time long time. I'm halfway through your Mac podcast and I had to pause it to tell you something.
In my hometown of Juneau, Alaska, there's a menu item called the McKinley Mac, named for the highest peak in North America. There was also a Denali Double Burger for a time, but that never caught on. The McKinley Mac was exactly what you all were calling for from the Grand Mac: it used the regular Big Mac bun but with the Quarter Pounder patties, using the QPC and the double-QPC. There was an extra shot of Mac sauce and an extra pickle to balance it out. I grew up in Juneau and worked at McD's for a couple of years in high school and early college. As far as I know, it's still a menu item there, but I guarantee they'd serve you a McKinley Mac if you asked, even if it's off-menu now like Animal Style. Do you know of any other standard chains - Wendy's, Domino's, etc. - that have regional menu items like this? Any favorites? |
