Nick's intro[]

Newtonsign

Newton, MA

Newton, Massachusetts dates its founding back to the 17th century. Namesake of the Fig Newton and the town in which the composers of patriotic hymns "America The Beautiful" and "My Country, 'Tis Of Thee" once resided, Newton is also where partners Steven Kolow and Arthur Cores opened a shop they dubbed Boston Chicken. As opposed to deep-fried Southern stalwart KFC, this Yankee aspirant served rotisserie birds along with its signature sides.

The partners expanded first throughout the Northeast, and when the chain added turkey, ham, and meatloaf as proteins in 1995, it rebranded itself with a name that still sticks to your ribs today.

In its rocky thirty years of operations, it's created its own grocery-store frozen meals, filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy, expanded into, and then retreated from, both Canada and Australia, and been bought and sold off by the McDonald's Corporation. Since 2007, it has been owned by parent company Sun Capital Partners, whose diverse holdings include restaurant brands Johnny Rockets and Friendly's, as well as American Golf and Gem Shopping Network.

Currently with over 450 locations and 10,000 employees, this New England creation has now spread to much of America.

Glaring Doughmission[]

Received by Doughmission
@DanEngler "The Dutch restaurant you mentioned is called an automat, once popular in New York. #GlaringDoughmission"
@DanEngler "I nominate #GlaringDoughmission as the hashtag for pointing out oversights. The other (horrifying) option is #Doughrrections."
Cara Olson "I want to admonish the Spoonman for not correcting Mr. Wiger on his pronunciation of Haverhill. As a New Englander myself, I expected more from you, Spoonman. It's pronounced like "Hay'vrull"."

Flavor of the Week[]

Flavor of the Week is a segment during which the Doughboys rank the different flavors of a snack item.

In this episode, they review and rank four different flavors of Lay's Potato Chips.

All were pretty indifferent/hostile to the four flavors, for the most part, but pick a winner anyway.

The Feedbag[]

Greetings from Indianapolis. The Hardee's episode reminded me of two things: Hardee's was my first encounter with curly fries which blew me away at the time.

The other thing I remember about Hardee's as a kid was they heavily promoted Days of Thunder with Tom Cruise, which strikes me as an odd fast food tie-in. I also remember proudly sporting a watch with the logo from the movie Congo on it that I got from Taco Bell. These promos seemed a little odd to me and made me wonder if you could recall any particularly memorable promotions from any of your favorite chain restaurants.
